Neami Tervil: Three Years of Service at CMHI

Celebrating the impact and future journey of a dedicated CMHI volunteer

At the Christian Mental Health Initiative (CMHI), we believe in nurturing not only healing within our communities but also cultivating leaders who carry the mission of faith and service into every space they occupy. One such remarkable individual is Neami Tervil, a devoted CMHI volunteer who has recently achieved an exciting milestone—matching in Internal Medicine at HCA/USF in Brooksville, Florida.

As she steps into this new chapter, we take a moment to reflect on the invaluable contributions Neami made during her time with us and celebrate the passion that continues to drive her journey in medicine.

A Calling Shaped by Compassion

Originally from Miami, Florida, and raised in Hollywood, FL, Neami’s interest in healthcare was ignited early on through her firsthand experience supporting her mother, who lives with type II diabetes and diabetic retinopathy. These deeply personal encounters with chronic illness laid the foundation for her unwavering commitment to addressing healthcare disparities, particularly in underserved and underrepresented communities.

Her desire to create change through medicine became more than a career path—it became a mission. That mission found a meaningful home during her time with CMHI.

Faith, Mental Health, and Empowerment: Neami’s Impact at CMHI

Neami’s contributions to CMHI have left a lasting mark. Through her work, she embodied the heart of CMHI’s mission: integrating Christianity and mental health awareness to empower communities with knowledge, compassion, and healing.

Neami Tervil core contributions included:

  • Compiling critical mental health and wellness resources for patients and healthcare professionals, helping bridge the gap between access and understanding.
  • Authoring educational blog posts that broke down complex health topics in clear, approachable language, ensuring even those in resource-limited settings could benefit from accurate, faith-integrated information.
  • Collaborating with our content development team to support the creation and distribution of accessible educational materials on CMHI’s online platforms.

Neami’s writing reflected both her empathy and her expertise, empowering readers to take charge of their health while recognizing the importance of spiritual wellness. She admired how CMHI “seamlessly integrates Christianity with therapy,” and that admiration translated into thoughtful, mission-driven work that continues to inspire.

Changing the Narrative on Mental Health

One of Neami’s most admirable qualities is her deep awareness of the mental health stigma in marginalized communities—and her determination to change that narrative.

At CMHI, she found alignment in our shared values: to speak openly about emotional and psychological challenges, especially within faith-based settings where these topics have often been overlooked. Her contributions helped CMHI further its vision of breaking stereotypes, promoting healing, and building trust through Christ-centered education and outreach.

Her presence within the CMHI team reminded us that the future of medicine can—and should—be guided by empathy, equity, and faith.

We have no doubt that she will continue to advocate for the underserved, serve with integrity, and uplift those most in need, not just as a physician, but as a leader deeply rooted in faith and compassion.
