Comment on Somatic Approaches to Mental Health Rooted in Biblical Principles by Don Klaassen https://christianmentalhealthinitiative.org/somatic-approaches-to-mental-health-rooted-in-biblical-principles/#comment-187 Sun, 30 Nov 2025 23:56:36 +0000 https://christianmentalhealthinitiative.org/?p=2957#comment-187 Greetings!
I am a former associate pastor and now a q chapel volunteer in several prisons. In the maximum prison where I volunteer in British Columbia Canada we have begun evening sessions for Christian inmates who want to go deeper in their healing journey. We are intending to include more biblically based somatic practices in these sessions that would help the inmates cope with and heal from their painful traumatic experiences. Are there any additional resources that you could point us to?

I was just recently hospitalized for my second time after I had unfortunately been convinced to stop one of my medications. I was suicidal and am not struggling to get back to a normal life. My job seems too much for me and I don’t make much to begin with. I never did any schooling either. I’m a single mom, looking for help. I begin a partial hospitalization program this next week as I feel like I wasn’t fully aware of many of the things I was doing and eating that were negatively affecting me and my sleep. Maintaining daily living is difficult. I’m praying for guidance in the program I will be attending. I thank you for your honesty.

Comment on Christians Celebrating Halloween: Is There Any Correlation? by John Howard Stothers https://christianmentalhealthinitiative.org/christians-celebrating-halloween-is-there-any-correlation/#comment-172 Sat, 25 Oct 2025 13:38:44 +0000 https://christianmentalhealthinitiative.org/?p=2888#comment-172 I liked your post about Halloween Jada .
Just one comment.
Did you mean to say …., no matter if a person wants to attend a Harvest Festival, pass out or receive candy, or even abstain from Halloween altogether, he key is to do so in a way that reflects your relationship with Christ because God judges our heart posture at the end of the day.
The Harvest Festival seems out of context to me . But does not detract really.
As for your fear reference and citing Proverbs 2: 12-14 a timely reminder for myself as to how a :harmless’ bit of fun can be twisted. into. Many X Box and other types of games can reward you for evil deeds and it nags at me that Halloween with Trick or Treat can be seen in two ways. One People can show love by giving sweets (candy) and ooh and ahh over great costumes. But on the other are we celebrating Evil? The Trick?
I think the Church has always struggled with incorporating the pagan into some form of accommodation. Indeed on All Saints day in medieval times I believe people would attend church wearing fancy dress depicting Good and evil. In the end the church will never be able to stop people dressing up.
Thanks for the insights
John (Belfast)
