Maybe you’ve cried yourself to sleep more nights than you can count, carrying the quiet weight of heartache after a breakup.

Or maybe you’re lying on the couch, numb, feeling crushed by the weight of another closed door when you prayed for an open one.

Perhaps you’re facing a diagnosis that came out of nowhere, and now you’re overwhelmed by the uncertainty of your future.

Whatever your situation, be encouraged today—but God has promised to walk with you through it all.

I’m on my own healing journey right now, and there are days I don’t have the answers. Some days, I don’t even have the strength to pray more than one sentence. But in those moments, I whisper God’s Word back to Him, with faith as small as a mustard seed. When I don’t have the strength to stand on anything else, I stand on scripture.

If you are reading this and feeling weary on your own healing journey, I invite you to stand with me on these promises:

Be Encouraged: God is Near to You

God does not leave or forsake you in your pain. He is close to the brokenhearted and promises to walk with you, even through the valleys.

Scriptures:

  • “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”  – Psalm 34:18
  • “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4
  • “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you.” – Isaiah 43:2
  • “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
  • “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Be Encouraged: God Has the Power to Heal You Specifically

God doesn’t just heal in some distant, general sense—He sees you personally and has the power to heal your specific situation, no matter how hopeless it feels.

Scriptures:

  • “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” – Psalm 147:3
  • “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,” declares the Lord, because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.” – Jeremiah 30:17
  • “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”  – Mark 5:34
  • “Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.” Psalm 30:2
  • “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24

Be Encouraged: This Won’t Last Forever

Seasons of pain do not last forever. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Hold onto the promise that there is hope beyond what you are experiencing right now.

Scriptures:

  • “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” – Psalm 30:5
  • “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
  • “Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” – 2 Corinthians 4:16-17
  • “He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.'”  Revelation 21:5
  • “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.” – Psalm 126:5
  • “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”  –  1 Peter 5:10

Prayer Response:

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your Word, your ability to heal, and your promise to heal me. I choose to trust You and believe in Your Word. Help me to trust in Your promises when I am weak.

Draw near to me as You have promised, and comfort me with Your rod and Your staff. Heal my heart, heal my mind, and heal my body. Give me the strength to hold onto hope, knowing that joy will come in the morning. Amen.

In a world filled with shifting expectations, digital overload, and rising anxiety, many teens are quietly asking: Why am I here? What am I supposed to do with my life? The search for purpose isn’t just a teen phase—it’s a deeply spiritual journey. And for Christian families and communities, guiding Gen Z through that journey is both a sacred calling and a necessary ministry.

Purpose Is a Lifelong Process

Discovering purpose isn’t a one-time revelation. It’s a lifelong unfolding of identity, calling, and relationship with God. For teenagers, it often begins with curiosity: “What am I good at?” or “Where do I fit in?”

When teens understand that purpose is a process, rooted in their values, God-given gifts, and even their struggles, they become more grounded, more hopeful, and more resilient in uncertain times.

📖 Romans 8:28 reminds us that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

Practical Ways to Guide Teens Toward Purpose

Teens don’t need all the answers right now—they need guidance, space to explore, and consistent reminders that their life has meaning. Here are ways we can support them:

  • Encourage Self-Reflection: Let them name their strengths, struggles, and values. Identity begins with honesty.

  • Explore Their Passions: Help teens try new things—sports, writing, volunteering, tech, or ministry. God often speaks through passion.

  • Set Meaningful Goals: Work with them to set small, faith-aligned goals. Progress builds confidence.

  • Model Purpose: Teens watch more than they listen. Live a life of joy, service, and faith—and they’ll see what’s possible.

  • Have Small, Frequent Conversations: Don’t wait for big moments. Ask about their dreams during car rides, dinner, or quiet moments.

  • Promote Volunteer Work: Giving back builds empathy and reveals gifts they didn’t know they had.

  • Be Patient and Present: Purpose doesn’t arrive overnight. Walk with them through confusion and clarity.

Faith as a Foundation for Purpose

In a secular world that often promotes self-made success, we must remind our youth that true purpose comes from knowing who they are, not just who they are.

  • Pray with Them: Help teens build a habit of praying for clarity, direction, and trust.

  • Speak God’s Truth Over Them: Remind them that they are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

  • Assure Them of God’s Plan: Jeremiah 29:11 promises that God has “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

When teens root their identity in Christ, they no longer chase purpose—they grow into it.

Teens Intergenerational Trauma

The Power of Support and Community

Purpose flourishes in the soil of strong relationships and meaningful belonging. Teens thrive when they’re connected to:

  • Family and Faith-Based Mentors: Trusted adults who listen, support, and challenge them.

  • Youth Ministries and Church Involvement: Safe spaces where their voice and story matter.

  • Positive Role Models: Exposure to Christian adults who live with integrity and direction.

Hope in Uncertain Times

Let’s not ignore the fear and uncertainty Gen Z faces—climate change, economic instability, social media pressure, and mental health challenges are real. But the hope we carry in Christ is greater.

Help them:

  • Focus on relationships over reputation

  • Celebrate growth, not perfection

  • Embrace rest, reflection, and resilience

Remind them: “Even when the future feels uncertain, your identity and purpose in God remain unshaken.”

💬 Final Thought

Purpose is not about performance—it’s about alignment with God’s plan. And helping Gen Z discover that truth is one of the most powerful ways we can love them.

At CMHI, we believe that faith + mental wellness go hand in hand. Let’s raise a generation of teens who don’t just exist—but live on purpose, with Christ at the center.

Meetings, appointments, events, Bible studies, relationships, and other commitments are all a part of the journey of living a purpose-filled life. But how exactly do we juggle it all without facing burnout? Holy burnout out existed since the beginning of time, and God offers us an everlasting prescription for our restlessness.

Full Plate

Imagine going to an all-you-can-eat buffet and only being allowed to get one plate. Naturally, to get the bang for our buck, we’re going to fill that plate with as much steak, chicken, and vegetables as we can until it’s quite literally running over. In the same way, with only one life to live, we often find ourselves stacking our plates so full of commitments that sometimes things fall off and we grow tired of eating. If there was anyone in history who had a lot on their plate, it was Jesus himself, yet despite a plate piled as high as the cross, Jesus took rest to illustrate what it means to trust in the Father fully.

Jesus was fully God and fully man, and we can look to his blueprint for how to take biblical rest despite having an ever-growing list. In the Bible, time after time, we see Jesus highlighting the importance of the sabbath and even demonstrating the importance of resting in the middle of storms. Amid chaos, we can rest assured that as we sleep, our God is working on our behalf.

God’s Dream vs The American Dream

The American dream sells us the facade that the more we learn, the more we earn, and the more we earn, the more we work, but a God dream offers us abundance and everlasting life that can only be achieved through resting fully in him.   God never promised us a life free of hardships and stress, but he does offer us a place where we can go to him. Practically, we can take time to meditate on scripture

Calm in the chaos

We can all attest to the fact that life has a way of we’ll… life-ing!!! There’s no reset button or scheduled time built out for a full reset, but as believers, we have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Jesus and sleep in the middle of our storm.

Recipe for success

Building in time for a pause is easier said than done. But what are some practical ways to prevent burnout?

  1. Go to sleep and give it to God: After you’ve tried your absolute best and you’ve given all you have, take time to surrender your day and your plans to him and take physical rest. Set a timer and consciously put the things on your plate on pause and say “God I give this to you,” and close your eyes. While this doesn’t erase our to-do list, it gives us the chance to invite God into our schedule and let him do what he does best.
  2. Take it Bite by Bite: We see all across the Bible that worrying adds nothing to our lives. Take inventory of the things that need your attention immediately and allow the remainder to be taken care of at another date. We can’t worry about tomorrow, but we can focus on the here and now and build everything brick by brick and watch how God molds it into a masterpiece. Rome was not built in a day; in the same way, you won’t achieve your God dream overnight. Our God isn’t in the business of overnight success or one-hit wonders—He specializes in steady, faithful growth, the kind that transforms us over time. So day by day, we will receive the fullness of his promises, focus on the little by little that you can do today, and let tomorrow worry about itself.
  3. Prioritize your wellbeing: Ensure that you’re doing at least one thing per day that contributes to your mental health. Maybe it’s reading a chapter in a book or going for a walk while listening to a podcast. Show up for yourself before you can show up for others.

Mental health care rooted in faith offers a unique blend of clinical expertise and spiritual guidance, providing individuals with a holistic approach to emotional and psychological well-being. For many, integrating Christian principles into their mental health treatment can be a source of comfort and strength, especially when dealing with anxiety, depression, or other emotional challenges. Philadelphia is home to several Christian psychiatrists and psychologists – outpatient mental health providers who offer spirituality-integrated mental health care.

Outpatient services, or OP, are beneficial for individuals who do not require hospitalization but still need regular mental health support. These services allow for ongoing treatment and therapy without the need to be in a facility full-time. Whether you are seeking weekly counseling sessions, family therapy, or spiritual guidance integrated into mental health care, outpatient services provide the flexibility to live at home while receiving treatment.

In this post, we will explore some Christian-based outpatient mental health services in the Greater Philadelphia area. These Christian psychiatrists and psychologists understand the importance of faith in the healing process and are committed to helping individuals find peace and strength through both professional and spiritual support. Of note, CMHI does not officially endorse any particular practice listed below. Rather, this blogpost is to serve as a guide in helping you to find a provider who suits your needs.

We are thrilled to share a heartfelt blog post by community member Lisa Choudhrie, reflecting on the comforting presence of Immanuel—God with us. In both our moments of joy and our seasons of struggle, Immanuel is present, deeply caring about our feelings and experiences. Lisa draws from scripture to remind us that God doesn’t just see our circumstances; He feels with us, walking beside us through every high and low.

Whether we’re celebrating victories or wrestling with anxiety, God’s love is constant, and His compassion for us is unwavering. Lisa’s post reminds us that Immanuel is not distant or uninvolved, but a God who intimately knows and cares for our emotional and spiritual well-being.

Immanuel                  5.12.21

Immanuel

God with us

YHWH Creator

World- former

Galaxy -spinner

Is here with us

Not for a day

Here to stay..

Not just for the good times..

But even in our sorrows

Grief and pain

He is here in the midst

Of our humanity, our grime..

Not a time for tears

This is a time for rejoicing

But He is Immanuel..

So we needn’t pretty up

Put the make-up on

Our God is with us

Very present, very perfect..

He sees our hearts

He understands

He was here, remember

He donned human skin.

Grief, loss, pain

Through it all

He gives us the space

To let naked emotions be displayed..

Immanuel, He stands at the door

And waits till we open

And greets us

Not with a jolly ‘ ho ho’

But a love that understands

He is Immanuel

Shows us His hands

Pierced by cruel nails

Our names on His palms

Enfolds us in His loving arms..

Immanuel… God with us…

Take comfort in the truth that He cares about every aspect of your life, and let that bring you closer to His loving embrace.

As we approach World Mental Health Day, let’s come together to learn, support one another, and take steps toward improved mental well-being.

Finding Your Compassionate Care Provider

The journey towards finding a Christian psychiatrist or psychologist starts with a few essential steps:

  1. Research and Referrals: Begin by researching professionals who specialize in faith-based mental health care. Seek referrals from your church community, friends, or family who may have had positive experiences.
  2. Check Credentials: Ensure that the mental health professional you consider is licensed, experienced, and has a solid understanding of Christian principles.
  3. Initial Consultation: Schedule an initial consultation to discuss your needs and gauge if there’s a good fit between you and the provider. It’s essential to have open and honest communication.
  4. Discuss Your Faith: During your consultation, discuss your faith and how it integrates with your mental health journey. A good provider will respect your beliefs and incorporate them into your care plan.
  5. Continued Support: Once you find a provider who aligns with your faith and needs, commit to ongoing therapy or treatment. Consistency is key to achieving lasting mental wellness.

Dr. Atasha Jordan will walk you through these steps in more detail during the virtual World Mental Health Awareness Day event.

CMHI’s Commitment

At CMHI, we are committed to promoting mental health awareness within the Christian community. We understand the challenges and questions that often arise when seeking mental health care that respects one’s faith. That’s why we’re here to provide guidance, resources, and support on this journey.

This World Mental Health Awareness Day, we encourage you to take a step towards holistic well-being. Seek out the compassionate care you deserve, one that respects your faith and values. Join us in acknowledging the importance of mental health within our faith communities and breaking the stigma that surrounds it.

We recognize that seeking help and finding a Christian psychiatrist or psychologist can be a transformative step toward healing and wholeness. Remember, you’re not alone on this journey. Together, we can foster understanding, support, and compassion, creating a brighter, more resilient community.
